I’m really big fan of Palo Alto Networks technology, they are developing pretty solid things, but sometimes their marketing department is doing unbeliveble thing, others vendors are doing similar things unfortunately.
Here is “undepented” test made by Miercom between PA-400 series and Fortigate 61F to 201F

It looks like PA perform much, much better than the Fortigates. Really?
Let’s analyze what Miercom tested:
- PA – enabled Threat Prevention, URL Filtering, DSN Sec and WildFire
- Forigate – enabled Antivirus, Web Filter, IPS, File Filter and Email Filter
If you are familiar with both technologies, right know sholud know why PA outperform Forti.
Email Filter require proxy inspection mode, any proxy communication means less performance, so it was obvious which one will be better.
Why they didn’t tested SSL Decryption, required proxy on Forti and PA as well, I think everyone know why 🙂
